Strofades

Strofades or Strofadia are two small islands in the Ionian Sea, at a distance of 27 miles south of Zakynthos. They have a total area of ​​about 2.6 sq.km. The largest and southernmost of the two islands is called Stamfani, a rocky islet about one km long, and the smaller Arpia. Strofades became known for their beauty, rich vegetation and because it is a passage for over a thousand species of migratory birds – for this reason it is part of the Marine Park of Zakynthos.

In Stamfani is the castle monastery with a 25 m high wall dedicated to the Virgin of “all joy” and to Saint Dionysios. The few visitors who will manage to get here, will see the empty tomb of Agios Dionysios  and will meet the only monk – hermit who watches over the monastery today.
