The popular Greek director Giannis Smaragdis, faithful to the spirit of the films he has created so far, such as Good night, Mr. Alexandre (Papadiamantis), Cavafy, El Greco, God Loves Caviar (for the benefactor Ioannis Varvakis) and the multifaceted Kazantzakis’s film, which is based on the Greek feeling and the palimpsest of Greek culture, is rapidly preparing the film KAPODISTRIAS, a film “reconciling and optimistic that looks beneficial to the future”, as he states.

For the needs of this long-awaited film, the director Giannis Smaragdis is  from today, Monday, in Corfu to decide the shooting locations. His goal is to include as many shootings as possible in Corfu, precisely because he considers it his obligation the island that gave birth to the great Ioannis Kapodistrias, to get as much as possible from the lights of the upcoming film that deserve both the island and the governor himself.

For this reason, he has already scheduled to meet with the Regional Governor, Rodi Kratsa, for the additional reason, as it is mentioned, that he was honored to attend the honorary screening of the creative documentary Reference to Ioannis Kapodistrias (who is the forerunner of the film), in Switzerland but also at the official premiere in Athens that took place at the Cultural Center “Hellenic World”. Both screenings were extremely successful and apparently increased the “expectations” for the film KAPODISTRIAS.

Among the collaborators who will accompany the director will be the Corfiot set designer of the film Spyros Laskaris, as well as the production manager of international prestige Jenny Panoutsopoulou. The role of Kapodistrias will be played by the great Greek actor awarded the Horn Award Michalis Sarantis and in the role of his companion Konstantinos Bibis, also awarded the Horn Award. Greek, Russian, French and Swiss actors will also take part in the film. Shooting will also take place in Russia and Switzerland. In Greece, apart from Corfu, filming will take place in Nafplio, Mani, Hydra and other selected locations.
