The Ionian University and the Region of Ionian Islands announce the launch of the first fully functional space of the Ionian Islands Film Office Metaverse. The project is set to revolutionise the film industry by providing an innovative and immersive way to facilitate audiovisual productions.
Ionian Islands Film Office Metaverse is a virtual environment that allows filmmakers and producers to collaborate with the Ionian Islands Film Office and prepare film production in a fully digital environment. The metaverse environment is easy to navigate and use as all access devices (mobiles, tablets, computers and VR virtual reality devices) are supported, interactively and collaboratively displaying the availability of cinema and tourist locations and services.
“We are excited to create and present the first fully functional Ionian Islands Film Office Metaverse space,” said Dr. Ioannis Deligiannis, Associate Professor, Ionian University. “This project is the culmination of hard work and cooperation between the Ionian University and the Ionian Islands Film Office. This is an innovation in the film industry and we are excited to see how it will shape the future of film production. It is the first time that a public institution gains access to virtual services and we are very pleased that its application is implemented by the Ionian University to strengthen the local creative industry in the audiovisual sector. The metaverse space can also be used as a tool for promoting tourism by the Region, as it contains a large number of selected sites with the natural beauty and unique historical monuments of the Ionian Islands.”

“It is our great honor and privilege to have the support of the Interactive Arts Research Laboratory of the Department of Audio & Visual Arts of the Ionian University, not only in the operation of the Ionian Islands Film Office but also in the creation of an innovative and dynamic version of it in the metaverse”, said Angela Krokidi, collaborator of the Regional Governor of the Ionian Islands Mrs. Rodi Kratsa and Head of the Film Office.
